The Man Behind the Science: Biography of Sir C.V. Raman

I compiled and designed this prototype biography to fill a gap in the available literature about India’s first Nobel Prize winner in the sciences. The book is directed at a general audience and aims to provide insight into Raman’s personality and inspiration, as well as interpret the general arc of his research for a lay reader.

Bright colors and delicate yet powerful rays evoke the beauty Raman saw in optical phenomena, like the color of a rose. I was inspired by my own curiosity about Raman, my great-granduncle, and the text is peppered with quotes I collected from relatives who knew him well. I’d love to revisit and publish this some day.
