Vidya has been engaged with movement and performing arts for more than 20 years. She currently studies and works in bharatanatyam performance and education with Malini Srinivasan in New York City, while training in Carnatic vocal with Roopa Mahadevan. She is a former member of Navatman Dance Company. Vidya also trains in improvisation and storytelling at the Magnet Theater.
She complements all her movement practices with yoga asana, meditation, and breath work. Her approach integrates lifelong training through Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, the Integral Yoga Institute, and Jivamukti-trained teachers.
As an artist and teacher, Vidya works with the knowledge that each individual’s body holds stories, and that life is improv.
Many other bharatanatyam teachers have been generous to share their knowledge with Vidya, including Kala and Indira Seetharam, V.P. and Shantha Dhananjayan, Prasanna Kasthuri, and Sahasra Sambamoorthi. She expresses gratitude to all teachers carrying on these ancient traditions.
